Parts of speech in English
What are Parts of Speech in English?
Traditional grammar classifies words based on eight parts of speech: the verb, the noun, the pronoun, the adjective, the adverb, the preposition, the conjunction, and the interjection.
- Nouns are used to name things, person, place and idea
- Pronouns there are 5 forms of pronouns
- Verbs are words used to talk about the actions or state.
- Action verbs are usually physical actions which you can see somebody doing. These verbs can be used in all tenses. Example: to run, to walk, to eat, to fly, to go, to say, to touch,....
- State verbs or Linking Verbs.

- Adjectives are words used to describe nouns or to modify nouns as in grammar term. There are two categories of English adjective: Descriptive and Limiting. And most descriptive adjectives have three forms and those are made of a point of English Grammar called Comparisons which we should know.
- Adverbs are words used to modify verbs. Often they answer question "how."
- Prepositions are words used to show time, place, ....
- Conjunctions : two kinds of conjunctions: Coordinating & Correlative conjunction
- Interjections : An interjection is a form, typically brief, such as one syllable or word, which is used most often as an exclamation or part of an exclamation.
